Subscape - Universal EP

Due for release on Caspa's label, Dub Police, on 5th Sept.

The Universal EP by Subscape really shows how varied his production styles often are, whilst always staying within the ever growing boundaries of dubstep.

Of the five tracks on the EP, the greatest highlight is probably the electro-flavoured Square Albert. Sure thing to be a club floor-filler in the very near future.

Apple Candy is more along the lines of his 2010 track All Day, with its mellow, rolling beats and soothing female vocals.

Cadillac Jack is much more reminiscent of his tunes such as Screw Up...

...and EP opener Turn Me On is a quality introduction to the world of Subscape if this is all new to you.

However it is, maybe surprisingly, the eponymous Universal that i feel has the least to offer here.

Three BIG dubstep tunes in this one...

I am already unbelievably excited to see Camo & Krooked at Parklife, in Manchester, in just over a week's time. They have been churning out banger after banger for the last year or so and have responsible for some of my favourite dnb tunes released over that time.

To see that they have just released two great new videos, has only added to the growing anticipation to see them live.

Skrillex & Korn - Get Up

I tend to find Skrillex tracks are usually a bit "hit-or-miss" to be honest, but I'm loving this collaboration at the moment.

Slightly biased, I know, as i am a bit of a Korn fan, but when i saw "Skrillex & Korn" I really did think that it could work...

Personally, I think it has done, but i feel it may be one that divides opinion...

Alpines Remixes

Having never heard of "Night-Pop" (their term, not ours) duo, Alpines, until this week, I was intrigued to see big names like Skream and Dark Sky on the remix for them.

Turns out, the female vocals on their debut EP Night Drive, released this week, are nothing short truly beautiful.
I can honestly only compare the feeling of hearing Alpines for the first time, to the first time i ever listened to Portishead. That feeling of, almost literally, being sucked into the track by the intensity and sheer elegance of the vocals.

Let the Bass Cannon Kick it - Free Dubstep Mix March '11

 

Tomorrow, it will be five months since we first featured Flux Pavilion's Bass Cannon on this blog.

After all that time waiting, Bass Cannon finally got released this week and if you haven't already i strongly suggest you buy it. In celebration of release we've got a FREE Dubstep mix for download, that opens with of course, the great track itself.

Rusko - Everyday (Netsky Remix)

Netsky's back again. This time he's armed with a with a MASSIVE remix for Rusko. At only 22 years old, this guy not only remixes for the biggest artists but also won 4 awards at this years Drum & Bass Arena Awards, including Best Breakthrough Producer.



The original Rusko track Everyday is relatively, pretty poor in comparison, but the single is out on April 5th and has the Netsky remix on it, as well as other remixes by DJ Q and Original Sin and also a release of last years Rusko and Reso collaboration, Lick the Lizard.

It's almost unbelievable how often we see new Skream productions or remixes, but here's the latest additions to the vast collection.

Another, brand new mix for you here, however, this ones a little bit different from the other mixes by AiR posted so far on this blog.

It's still got the big names, such as Skream, Breakage, Diplo, James Blake, Subscape and Dark Sky in there and its still around 140bpm throughout...

But this one is NOT about filthy bass! It's about sitting back and letting a subtle wave of relaxing dubstep wash over you.
Delicate vocals and soothing basslines are what's on the menu here.
